They could have easily angled the pedestrian crossing at an angle, but probably wasn't in their original plan.

So why wouldn't they place the street lamps closer to the trees instead?
It looks funny now, but imagine all the people that were involved in the paint job and installing the pedestrian sign. A great example of NOT MY JOB.
I told those guys to pick the dead palm tree. They didn't care. Neither did I.
